Silane-modified Polymers News
Open Innovation competition brings plenty of ideas
Creative people from 12 countries submitted 132 entries under the slogan "Decide for yourself how things match and when".
How can silane-modified polymers meet the requirements of the future in the field of adhesives and sealants? As part of an Open Innovation competition, the Consumer Specialties Business Unit has been looking for possibilities for developing and applying a special class of active ingredients based on silane-modified polymers.
The awards ceremony took place in March 2013 at the site in Essen after a panel of experts picked out six winning ideas from the 132 submissions from people outside of Evonik. The ideas were judged according to their originality, the accuracy of the description in terms of customer and market benefits, and how feasible the idea is. At the ceremony, Mr. Hoppe was congratulated no less than three times, as three of his ideas had made it into the top six. The winning idea came from Frank Wegmann from Flensburg.
"Open Innovation is an attempt to broaden horizons and to get answers to the global industry trends," explains Dr. Anke Lewin, Head of Development and Application Technology at TEGOPAC®. At the moment, the Evonik silane-modified polymers team is going about implementing some of the ideas in projects. They are happy with the ideas they received and they value the experiences gained from the competition. "The competition is another way to encourage innovation at Evonik", says Dr. Sabine Giessler-Blank, Head of Innovation Management for the Interface & Performance Business Line in Essen.
